In the Directorate of Secondary Education, there is a post of Deputy Director Private Aided Schools is under the D.P.I (SE). At present, three branches and editor branches are working under the Deputy Director Private Aided Schools i.e.
- Grant-I
- Grant-II
- Pension Branch
- Editor Punjabi

Function of the Grant-I Branch
1. Correspondents are approved as a D.D.O for the Grant-in-Aid purpose in the private aided schools.
2. Case of affiliation of private schools with C.B.S.E/I.C.S.E are dealt by the branch.
3. Various types of compliant of the management or the private aided schools are dealt.
4. Court cases regarding formation of committees.
5. Recognition to the private high schools.
6. Approval of appointments of the Principals/Headmasters for grant-in-aid purpose.
7. Co-ordination and policy matters regarding private aided school.
Function of the Branch Grant-II
At present 95% Grant-in-aid on account of salary of the staff working in Govt. aided schools are being reimbursed by the Department to the managing committee which is running aided schools in the State.
The total number of Govt. aided schools are at present 399 of which higher Sec. Schools are 118, High School are 235 middle schools are 46 and total strength of employee stood on 2001 are 9215 regular and 253 posts part time which are classified as under:- |

FUNCTION OF PENSION BRANCH
- Under the notification No. GSR -10/PPMRSE (SS) R81/ R 22-A/92 dated 10.2.92 the retirement benefits were given to the employees working in the Punjab Privately Managed Recognized Govt. Aided Schools.
- this scheme was repealed by the Govt. vide notification No. SO-34/P.P.M.R.S.E (SS) R-81/R-22-A/2003 dated 12.9.2003.
- Presently the retirement benefits (Pension, Communication, Grauity) are being given to the employees who retired on or before 31.5.03.
- In the state, up to now, pension payment order has been issued to 3795 retired employees of the Private Aided Schools.
EDITOR (PUNJABI)
The following work is being done by the edition Punjabi:
- Approval of Punjabi, Hindi and English books for school libraries.
- Approval of Magazines, text books to school teachers and bringing out Magazine on School Education 'Vidyah Darpan' etc.
- Organization of cultural and literacy activities among school students and miscellaneous work regarding books and libraries.
Work of the above said branches is routed through the Dy. Director Private Aided Schools D.P.I (SE) Punjab Govt.
